World of Work

“To develop an insightful approach that raises aspirations and exposure through the World of Work programme, so that students understand the flight paths available to them and learn valuable life skills to make informed choices about their future”

At King’s Leadership Academy, we place great emphasis on each of our students having a personal development programme that ensures that they, “the academic skills, intellectual habits, qualities of character and leadership traits necessary to succeed at all levels and become successful citizens in tomorrow’s world”. This starts as soon as they arrive in Year 7 and builds significantly through Year 8-13. Our careers programme is designed to enable students to feel some sense of responsibility and achievement in determining and recognising not only their strengths and weaknesses, but also their full potential.

The World of Work programme at King’s is measured against the Gatsby Benchmark through the use of: regular student surveys; NEETS and destination information.

“Every young person needs high-quality career guidance to make informed decisions about their future. Good career guidance is a necessity for delivering technical education reforms and is a vehicle for social justice: those young people without social capital or home support suffer most from poor career guidance”. – www.gatsby.org

Below is an overview of the activities and events the World of Work programme includes to comply with The Gatsby Benchmarks:

Unifrog

In keeping with our commitment to provide students with outstanding careers guidance and tailored support when choosing their next step after school, we will now be using Unifrog; an award-winning, online careers platform. All students in Years 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 now have access to this excellent website.

Unifrog brings into one place every undergraduate university course, apprenticeship, and college course in the UK, as well as other opportunities, such as School Leaver Programmes, MOOCs and every college at Oxford and Cambridge. This makes it easy for students to compare and choose the best university courses, apprenticeships or further education courses for them. They can also explore exciting opportunities further afield by looking at English-taught undergraduate programmes available in Europe and the USA.

Additionally, the platform helps students successfully apply for these opportunities by using Unifrog to write their personal statement, applications and CVs and guiding them through the process, allowing teachers to give live feedback.

Students access the tool by logging into Unifrog using their email address and password and they can do so from any computer, tablet or smartphone. We would encourage parents to use the platform with your child/children so you can support them through the process of deciding their next step.

We have also set up a parent login so that you can use Unifrog as if you were a student yourself, allowing you to truly support your child. The form code you need is: KLAWarringtonparents and you can sign up here: www.unifrog.org/code
