Art & Design

King’s is totally committed to the Arts and offers all our students opportunities to explore their creative side. Those who opt to take Art or Art & Design as an examination subject have access to outstanding resources. Students can engage in everything from drawing and painting to photography to computer assisted design with the very latest facilities.

The KS3 course has been designed specifically to equip students with art knowledge, skills and creativity, as well as to give students experience in a wide range of media and technique exploration. All students have one hour per week of Art lessons, lead by specialist art practitioners who nurture and support students development.

The GCSE course allows students to explore a range of disciplines within art, including drawing, painting, digital media, 3D, textiles and photography. Students are encouraged to specialise in their chosen medium and develop their skills to achieve mastery. Students are able to take risks; and to become creative, independent practitioners.

The A Level course is an extension of GCSE, where students build upon their skills and push boundaries in their own practice. There is a strong emphasis on conceptual or purposeful artwork, with presentation strongly in mind when creating.

The Art Department have now set up a Twitter account where images of students work is posted.  Please take a few minutes to have a look at the wonderful pieces of work our students have been working on (@KLAFineArt).
